Lucy Buck
Catchment Officer – Science and PartnershipsLucy has always been drawn to rivers, coasts and the landscapes they shape. Growing up by the River Thames inspired a lifelong fascination with the natural environment, from learning to sail to exploring the coastline and understanding the processes that shape our waterways.
Her background is in geology and coastal geomorphology, and her PhD focused on how coastlines respond to environmental change. Throughout her career she enjoyed combining fieldwork, GIS, data analysis and scientific research to better understand natural systems and support evidence-based environmental management. What she enjoys most, however, is working with others to turn that knowledge into practical action that benefits both people and nature.
Outside of work you'll usually find her on or in the water, whether sailing, scuba diving or swimming. When she is not outdoors, she is looking after her ever-growing collection of houseplants, reading fantasy novels or planning her next adventure.
